Hi Khun Wimut,
Do you have any suggestion for me on the best place to see Hale-Bopp? My friend reccommend Kho Samed but I'm not sure. Please suggest.
Thanks.

Regards,

Hello K.Punchalit,
It depends on what time you are going to observe, and what instruments you use. Remember, Hale-Bopp appears at low altitude. You must find the place that has a low horizon in the direction Hale-Bopp will appear.

There are 3 things to consider:
1.Horizon.
2.Light pollution.
3.Weather Forecast.

Sea shores and islands are not good places for stargazing;
First, there are many light pollution from the beach community and ships. Second, if you use some instruments such as telescope or binoculars, the salty sea breeze might ruin your instruments. Moreover, strong wind might be a handicap for telescope setting.

There are many good places for stargazing, e.g., national park, paddy field in rural areas.

Please tell me if you find your target.

Dear Khun Wimut,
I stopped by your table at the recent NECTEC conference and picked up some information. I was hoping to find out if you had an outing planned to see Hale-Bopp. I thought I remembered seeing this information on your site, but visiting it now I can't find it at all there.

Could you please either send me the URL for this information, or e-mail me with the information itself? Thanks very much!

Dear Schoonover,
Hale-Bopp information in English version became unavailable. Only Thai information can be found at

http://mis.mua.go.th/~wimut/tas/th/hb.html

This page has a link to an ephemeris page. Or directly access

http://mis.mua.go.th/~wimut/tas/th/hbeph.txt

Hope this help.

Dear K. Wimut,
Thank you very much for the URLs about the comet Hale-Bopp. I will have a friend at work help me with the Thai. In the meantime, will there be an outing to go see it in the near future? Thanks in advance for the information!

The next outing is being planed. Maybe 5-7 April. The schedule will be released around 23rd. If you are a member of TAS, you can get such information via snail-mail as well. However, TAS homepage is much faster. We welcome anyone to subscribe to TAS. Only 150 baht per year. Very cheap indeed.
